Let's Explore the Amiga A1020 5.25" Floppy Drive - Episode 125

This week on 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast I am looking at the Amiga A1020 5.25" Floppy Drive I purchased at AmiWest in 2021. This handsome little guy is really made to be used with an Amiga Bridgeboard like the A2088, A2286 or A2386 as an external PC drive, but also works just fine as a 440KB Amiga Floppy drive! Join me as I show you how to connect one to your Amiga using the Mountlist options and we fix it and get it working!

Here are the scripts you need for Amiga OS 1.x Mountlist, or Amiga OS 2.x and 3.x in the DEVS:/DOSDRIVERS folder.

Mountlist sample (1.3 style)

/* Mount a 5.25" disk drive to be mounted as DF1: */

DF1: Device = trackdisk.device

Unit = 1 /* first external unit */

Flags = 1 /* important ! */

Surfaces = 2

BlocksPerTrack = 11

Reserved = 2

Interleave = 0

LowCyl = 0 ; HighCyl = 39

Buffers = 20

BufMemType = 1 /* or 3 if you run OS 1.x */

Dosdriver form (2.x/3.x style)

Device = trackdisk.device

Unit = 1 /* first external unit */

Flags = 1 /* important ! */

Surfaces = 2

BlocksPerTrack = 11

Reserved = 2

Interleave = 0

LowCyl = 0 ; HighCyl = 39

Simply save it as DF1 (or A1020 if you prefer) in your Dosdrivers directory (generally in Sys:storage). Open a shell and try mount df1: (or A1020:) !

According to (french programmer) Etienne Vogt, the important thing is to set Flags=1 (tells the trackdisk.device that you really want to mount a 40 track drive, else it will ignore it)

Upgrading my Amiga 3000 with an A3640 Accelerator - Episode 120

This week on 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast I am getting back into my lovely Amiga 3000 and putting a 25 Mhz 68040 under the hood! The only problem is that the A3640 cards are not "officially" supported by the Desktop A3000 and for good reasons! Upgrading my Amiga 500 from OCS to ECS - Episode 119

This week on 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast I am upgrading my shiny new Amiga 500 to a full ECS machine with 1 MB of CHIP RAM and all the fancy-pants ECS video modes! Join me as I go over the procedures, including the modifications to your Amiga 500 to upgrade it, and review the nice ECS Chipset. It is more powerful than you might think!

Remember, to use the 1 MB Agnus, break the connections between pads 2 & 3 on J2, bridge pads 1 & 2 of J2, and cut the trace for JPA7.
